Why is it that nobody seems to comment on anything they download?
One of the best things i liked about NZBmatrix was the deluge of comments that you got with near every download there... it really helped with sorting the wheat from the chaff, and with what was worth downloading and what was not...
I cant help but feel that because of that there used to be very little in the way of viruses on there... due to the fact that they got pointed out very quickly by the community..

the fact that no one seems to be botherd to leave any feedback here leaves it wide open for people to load up viruses and other malware ... I MISS THE COMMENTS!

Agreed. I think they should REQUIRE people to comment if they download something. That's a way they could ensure everyone is getting involved. I've yet to download something that I haven't commented on but apparently me and you are the only ones on the site doing it because I hardly ever see any comments. Also I've been getting lots of empties for things that are literally a couple hours old. Is it just me? Or should I switch providers. I currently use block providers newsgroupdirect and thecubenet because I save money over an unlimited provider. I may go back soon to someone else though.

I've just started commenting on everything I've downloaded. Hopefully we can kickstart the whole crowd mentality.

If I commented, it would be the same thing every time, "This nzb was missing blocks."

"This nzb was missing blocks" still helps!

I think its because the vast majority of the downloads are via API. And I don't know how you could help that. I don't think people really visit the site if they can just set up couchpotato/sickbeard/headphones to do all the nzb grabbing for them

The vast majority of downloads are direct. API requests count for less than 1/3rd of our traffic.

hmm. In that case, maybe making the forum more visible would help?

If people see active topics on the front page, they may be inclined into participating. I know commenting on releases is another issue, but if the community grows sufficiently the comment problem would fix itself.

What I'd there was some sort of point system? For every comment you receive 1 point, for every download you do not comment on you get minus one point. Not really sure what the points would be used for (custom titles/colors) or just bragging rights.

My mentality is somewhat different, and quite deliberately so: I comment only if there's something I feel needs to be said. I will rate everything I download and watch (I try, anyway. I'm sure I've forgotten many, many times).

For this reason I don't end up commenting very often. I typically comment if something didn't work, if there was a quality issue or, at times, if something was a very good watch, in which case I feel the world needs to know.

Ultimately I think this is what I'd expect of others as well. If something is just as expected it seems fairly silly to waste my time writing about it and that of others to have them read it. If I see a release has a comment I typically expect it to pertain to the quality of the release of the lack of completion.

I agree with chokladkakan, only if something is not right do I comment.

Whats with these posts that have these jumble of character names? Is it auto fetching with user assisted cleaning? I don't think nzbmatrix did that which could be why there is no commenting... no one is taking ownership of the posts

Most of my downloads are api based, but I've been trying to go through my SABnzbd queue and comment on things that were successful. Currently I take the url displayed in sab and alter it to get to the correct url to comment. Here's an example:

https://nzbx.co/nzb?68a6dafbacdd1a4809913030f1be735c = https://nzbx.co/d?68a6dafbacdd1a4809913030f1be735c

Is there a better way to handle this so it's not so manual?

I think for API based downloads, we're more interested in some sort of numeric rating. I think upvote / downvote ratios might do it.

BTW, was I the only one who didn't think the up / down arrows were actually buttons?!

They definitely need to incentivize people to vote / comment like with a point system.

The only way I'm going to vote/comment is when we are able to do it straight from sabnzbd "Downloaded list" under 4-5 click with no copy-pasting involved. I would love to Upvote/Downvote each and every nzb in my SAB downloaded list but I'll never bother to visit each nzb site and learn their implementation of commenting / voting

Probably the delay between downloading and discovering quality issues accounts for the comments shortfall. NZBMatrix was huge so a small percentage of community-minded commenteers was still valuable. Maybe, you get your first download free, the next one costs you a feedback comment on your previous download. So you're always commenting one download in arrears. Just make it easy to do it.
